Day One: Why do you want to overcome fear?
Here we go with day one of 31 days to overcome fear. I can already tell that I’m going to be exhausted by the time day 31 rolls around, but in a good way!
First things first, why do you even want to overcome your fears?
It’s pretty tough to push through the fear if you don’t have a burning desire to get to something on the other side of your fear. You need a clear picture of what you pushing toward.
Ask yourself this question: what would I do if I had no fears? Take the time to physically write a list of all the things that your fear is holding you back from. Then stop and picture life with all those things. As you’re writing and imagining, don’t worry yet about how you are going to conquer those fears. There will be plenty of time to worry about that later. For now, you just really need to create a urgent desire for all you have to gain.
Is there something that you’ve always thought, “I really want to do that, but I’m too afraid”? Stop and imagine what it will feel like when you conquer that fear.
Note that there’s a subtle, but powerful difference between this question and the “what are you actually afraid of” question. We’ll get to that question later.
So for today, write a list of things you’d like to do if you could get past your fears. If you don’t mind, share one or two things in the comments.
I’ll go first. If I had no fear, I would be actually be submitting my guest posts to other blogs. I would soon be launching a small graphic design business. I would not only be attending a blog conference, but reaching out to people once I’m there. I would be hosting a few more gatherings.
What about you?
