I’m giving away a meal planner that isn’t like any meal planner you’ve ever seen before.
Here’s the story:
I’ve been meal planning faithfully for quite a while, but it never fails that we don’t actually get around to making the meals on the days I plan. They always get all shuffled around.
We go out to eat or get invited somewhere that wasn’t planned. Often, we don’t eat many of the leftovers for lunches, so we just end up eating leftovers for dinner to avoid having to throw the food out.
So I decided to create a printable to embrace this way of planning.
Instead of assigning a meal to each day, I’m instead assigning each meal to one of two categories. Meals that have perishable ingredients go in the left column. Meals that can be made later (like something frozen) go in the right column.
Then for the meals in the left column, there’s a space to write when it needs to be made by, so I can see that at a glance. For example, I’m planning a chicken dish that uses heavy cream that expires on Sep 28, so I put Sep 28 in the spot next to that meal. That way I know I need to make it before then.
This way I can use up all my ingredients before they go bad.
I’m planning 14 meals at a time, with a goal of 7 perishable ones and 7 that are from the freezer or use items that remain good for at least a month.
I think each meal plan will last our family 3-4 weeks since we always have leftovers.
Your family might eat things a lot faster than mine, but this would still be ideal if you want more flexibility on which days you cook each meal.
