Mood tracking is something that’s common in the Bullet Journaling community, but I’m no artist, so creating gorgeous spreads by hand is not my cup of tea. I decided to set out to create a mood tracker printable that would be fun and exciting, just like something you’d find in a bullet journal, but without the need for hand drawn brilliance.
Enter, the mood tracker printable.
It was sketched by a talented artist on the I Heart Planners team (i.e. not me) and then digitized into an easy to use printable! If you’ve hung out on the blog much at all, then you’ve probably seen these pens floating around.

How to Fill Out Your Mood Tracker Printable
Filling out the mood tracker printable is easy! You can watch this video to see how I fills out my Mood tracker.
Start by choosing the colors you want to use. You’ll need five different colors to fill out the key. There’s no right or wrong. Some people like to use darker colors for sad and heavy emotions and lighter colors for happier emotions. If you want to be extra fancy, you could gradient the colors to show a wider range of emotion (ex. pastel pink for kinda happy ranging up to hot pink for super duper happy!)
Each pen in the cup is numbered from 1 to 31 (for 31 days in the month.) Take just 30 seconds each day to color in the pen cap with the mood that best fits your day.
After just one month you’ll be able to track patterns in your mood! This will allow you to find trends and track correlations between how you’re feeling and medications, work schedule, and other external factors.

How do you create a mood tracker?
The great news is that with this free mood tracker printable, you don’t have to create your own! But if you love designing printables and spreads for yourself, there are two key components to any mood tracker.
- The Design – in order to create a mood tracker you’ll need some sort of repetitive design. I used pens in a cup where each pen cap represents a day of the month. A lot of people draw their own honeycomb (just a collection of hexagons) but you could truly make it anything you’d like! Flower petals, tea bags, or clouds are all great options!
- A Key – in order to read your mood tracker you’ll need to be sure to include a key, both for the days you are tracking and for the colors of your mood. Monthly mood trackers are common, but some people prefer to track by week. Whichever you choose, make sure you number each day so you know what you’re looking at when you look back over your trackers. Also be sure to include a box that indicates what each color represents.
How can I track my moods?
Tracking your mood is easy! There’s no exact science, and people feel a variety of different moods and emotions every day. But at the end of the day, take just a moment to reflect on how you feel about the day as a whole. What mood permeated the day. If you really can’t decide, then you could color in that day with half and half colors to show that you were conflicted that day.
Does mood tracking work?
Mood tracking is an excellent way to uncover trends. But, once you’ve uncovered the trend, you’ll need to do a little detective work of your own to figure out why you’re feeling the way you’re feeling. If you find you’re having a bad day every seven days or so, maybe there’s something in your work schedule that is causing you stress on a weekly basis. And, ladies, don’t forget to look for trends that tie in to that time of the month.
Why should you track your mood?
Like I mentioned above, tracking your mood is a great way to uncover trends. It also keeps you informed about how your days are going. On social media and at work you probably hear a lot of people complaining about how down in the dumps everything is, and it’s easy to let their self talk become your own. But tracking your mood may help you uncover that you’re having better days than you think you are – and when you believe that you’re having good days, you’re more likely to have more of them! And, if you uncover your days are worse than you anticipated, be sure to look for trends and potential triggers so you can start feeling your best.
